Brighton & Hove Albion hit another team for six in the Carabao Cup last night - and Paraguayan forward Diego Gómez made a name for himself with an outstanding four-goal haul.

The Seagulls walloped Barnsley 6-0 at Oakwell to progress to the fourth round of the competition, with Gómez netting a spectacular first-half hat-trick and then adding another after the break. Harry Howell and Yasin Ayari then added late strikes to complete a comprehensive win for the Premier League.  It was a second successive 6-0 win in the Carabao Cup for Fabian Hurzeler's side, who are now safely in the hat for the fourth round.

Gómez's rocket of a third goal, in particular, showcased the 22-year-old's ability and his sparkling four goal performance marked the first time since the start of last season that a player has scored a 'poker' in the Carabao Cup.

In fact, across all domestic competitions, only five other players have managed to rack up four goals in a game since 2024/25.

Chelsea's Cole Palmer is the only player to manage the feat in the Premier League during this timeframe, although three players have hit four in the Championship.
