Fresh reports from trusted German sports paper Bild are putting Chelsea firmly in the race for rising Bundesliga star Said El Mala.

The 19 year old is being chase by Brighton, with an article today saying there’s been “several more phone calls” between the Premier League club and Koln.

Chelsea are clearly behind the Seagulls in the race, but they’re in there. The Blues have apparently contacted the German side’s sporting director Tim Steidten directly to make their interest clear.

Brighton aim for double deal to trump Premier League rivals

Brighton have one advantage, the piece goes on to say: they’re keen on signing both Said and his brother Malek at the same time. They are going to offer €35m as their “final offer,” giving an idea of the price we’re talking about here.

Chelsea already have so many wingers on their books, with Geovany Quenda arriving this summer to add even more. We’re not sure El Mala will be our top priority this summer unless someone is getting sold. And given Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho arrived a year ago, we can’t see them moving on.

In other news…

Two current Chelsea attackers are not having great seasons, but their stats are a little more promising than the eye test.

Cole Palmer did an international break interview and gave hilariously little away, in his typical style.
