Flamengo chase a Campeonato Carioca semi-final place on Sunday with Bruno Henrique in the final year of his deal and weighing retirement. According to Globo.com, the 35-year-old is considering ending his career this season.

Botafogo, their quarter-final opponents, have often felt his impact. He has seven goals against them and 11 versus Vasco, part of 22 in 60 derbies, with four more against Fluminense.

His Flamengo debut came against Botafogo in 2019, when he scored both goals in a 2-1 comeback. In 2023 he forced an own goal, had one disallowed and hit the 2-1 winner.

He struck twice in the 2025 Supercopa final in Belém at the Mangueirão, including a long-range effort, as Flamengo outplayed the reigning Brazilian champions.

He is available to coach Filipe Luís for Sunday’s tie at Estádio Nilton Santos at 17:30, with the winners to face Madureira.

His contract runs to December, when he will be 36. Flamengo view the decision as his and would keep him if he chooses to carry on, given his standing at the club.

After winning the 2025 league he said he wanted to finish at Flamengo, felt the end was nearing and might retire after this last year. Fitness weighs on the decision, despite 62 games in 2025 and returns of 15 goals and two assists. He has 17 trophies with Flamengo, alongside Arrascaeta the club’s most decorated player, and plans to live in Rio with his family.
