Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has decided to snub interest from other suitors and complete a move to Manchester United, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

Bolstering the attacking department was a top priority for Ruben Amorim heading into the summer transfer window, following a toothless season in front of goal.

In addition to securing a new striker, United are also believed to be keen on strengthening the number 10 position. On Sunday, the club confirmed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but their ambitions don’t stop there, with Mbeumo emerging as a top target.

Mbeumo enjoyed a prolific 2024/25 campaign, notching a career-high 20 Premier League goals. Only Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak found the back of the net more times than the Brentford attacker.

Amidst competition from the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle, a report that came out last night claimed that United were growing more confident about their chances of winning the race for Mbeumo.

It was subsequently relayed that the Red Devils are indeed frontrunners to land the Cameroonian.

Now, David Ornstein has issued a huge update, revealing that Mbeumo wants to join United ahead of all other interested parties.

According to Ornstein, “Bryan Mbeumo has decided he wants to join Manchester United, and the Old Trafford club is set to open talks with Brentford as they pursue an agreement to sign the forward this summer.”

“[He] has attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur — but Mbeumo favours a switch to Manchester United, if they can strike a deal with Brentford.”

It remains unclear whether United have agreed personal terms with the 25-year-old, but given his desire to make the move, that part of the deal is likely to be a formality.

Reports have suggested that Brentford want around £50m to sanction Mbeumo’s sale.

Mbeumo has has a year left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium. The Bees retain the option to extend his stay by an additional 12 months.
