Bryan Mbeumo and, probably, Manchester United’s top target, Carlos Baleba, will have Red Devils fans closely following Cameroon’s AFCON exploits in the ongoing African showpiece.
Cameroon were drawn into Group F, alongside Amad Diallo’s Ivory Coast, Gabon, and Mozambique.
It is far from the easiest group, yet Mbeumo and his Indomitable Lions teammates will be determined to come out on top. They began the competition with a 1‑0 victory over Gabon, Mbeumo making his mark just six minutes in by setting up United striker target Karl Etta Eyong for the decisive goal, a statement of intent that Cameroon meant to dominate the group.
Mbeumo, who delivered a man‑of‑the‑match performance against Gabon, addressed the media afterwards.
While delighted with the victory, he was quick to caution his teammates against complacency.
“The win is very important to start the competition well,” Mbeumo said after the final whistle as per Africa Top Sport. “I’m very proud of the team, and we’re happy to take the three points.”
But he added:
“I wouldn’t say it’s calm just yet. There’s still a lot of work to do to secure qualification, but I think we’re ready.”
With three points secured, attention now shifts to the mammoth clash between Cameroon and the Ivory Coast on Sunday, the 28th. Mbeumo and Amad, partners in crime at United, will find themselves on opposing sides.
Mbeumo has already warned his United right‑wing partner of an unfriendly reunion, declaring: “We’re impatient to play that match.”
Both sides head into the game buoyed by opening‑day wins, and whoever prevails will surely seize firm control of the group.
United fans will be watching with keen interest, though many will be torn over which side to support.
Ultimately, whichever team triumphs, Old Trafford faithfuls will just hope their players deliver quality performances on the biggest stage.
