The German Football League (DFL) has secured the long-awaited capital in order to further develop the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga with a newly agreed deal.

Germany's top two football divisions will receive a €100million loan from sporting goods manufacturer Adidas as part of a far-reaching cooperation agreement.

The DFL executive committee unanimously approved a corresponding agreement with the global corporation, which was confirmed by the league association yesterday, 28 April.

Speaking after the agreement, DFL president Hans-Joachim Watzke said the partnership is “significant for the league association” and “an exemplary signal extending beyond football.”

“Adidas and the DFL will jointly contribute to a positive future for German professional football. In these dynamic economic times, the financing model offers an important option for investing in the growth of the Bundesliga,” he added.

As part of the deal, the official match ball with the global corporation, which was in place from 2026 to 2030, was also extended early by four more years until 2034.

Starting next season, an official Adidas match ball will be used for eight years in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, as well as in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.

Furthermore, the relegation play-offs between the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, and the newly established U-21 competition will also feature a ball with the famous three-stripe logo.
