Everything indicates that Nico Schlotterbeck is set to be at the centre of one of the major transfer sagas of next summer.
The Borussia Dortmund centre-back is expected to leave at the end of the season. A series of internal issues and his refusal to renew a contract that runs until 2027 have all but guaranteed his departure.
Several clubs have shown strong interest in the defender, with Barcelona among the main candidates to secure his services.
Hansi Flick’s side are keen to add a left-sided centre-back following the departure of Inigo Martinez, despite the fact that Gerard Martin has performed well in that role.
Schlotterbeck’s arrival would represent a significant boost in a key position for Barcelona, although it will not be straightforward, given the intense competition for his services.
Moreover, according to BILD (h/t SPORT), Borussia Dortmund are seeking an offer of at least €70 million for Schlotterbeck amid growing interest.
Indeed, apart from Barcelona, Real Madrid have also fully entered into the race to sign the German international in the summer.

Reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are also interested in the 26-year-old established defender.
With it becoming more and more likely that Schlotterbeck will not renew and the number of top clubs interested in his services increasing, Dortmund want to ensure they receive the best possible transfer fee for a top player.
As such, the Black and Yellows are seeking at least €70 million for the sale of the German international in the summer of 2026.
The transfer fee demands coupled with the increasing competition could make things complicated for Barcelona with regard to their pursuit of Schlotterbeck.
After all, they are still dealing with economic restrictions and will also need funds to reinforce the No. 9 position, where Robert Lewandowski is expected to depart.
