Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw says City's belief is continuing to grow after City claimed a 2-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.
The Jamaican helped the Blues secure a seventh consecutive win league under Andrée Jeglertz as her winning goal proved the difference on Merseyside and saw us move to the top of the WSL table.
Vivianne Miedema sent us ahead after 20 minutes as she snuck in between the Everton defence, before coolly slotting the ball past Emily Ramsey.
Everton, however, proved a real threat in attack with Toni Payne causing problems on the wing and she soon set up the equaliser for Kelly Gago with five minutes of the first-half to play.
After we headed in honours even at the break, City came searching for a winner through Shaw, who had previously seen several attempts go wide.
Our number nine rose the highest to head Leila Ouahabi’s cross into the net, which saw her become the joint top goalscorer in the league this season with five goals.
She says despite a tricky game, which saw the Toffees test our resilience, the final result is all that matters.
“At the end of the day the three points is all that matters and you could tell towards the end of the game we wanted to win and we wanted to just finish it off,” she said.
The victory also sees us move to the league summit, but while it’s early in the season she explains that the squad are concentrated on our performances.
“I think for us it’s always about confidence and I think the more we win games, the more confident we get as a group or we believed in our in ourselves,” she added
“Obviously we’ve gone about our business quietly and I think we don’t mind that as a group as long as we are winning games and moving up the table, that’s all that matters.
“I think it’s all mentality this season. I think it starts from when we do training sessions and we have games you want to win and I think just by having that every day in training, I think we know that OK and we’ve been there before, even if a team score first or equalise, we know that we’re capable of winning the game.
“So, I just think the biggest thing this season compared to last is our mentality because last year we would have lost some simple games.
“Fast forward to this year, you know, we don’t care how we win now we just want to get the three points.”
