Burnley have confirmed the appointment of Nicky Hayen as their new head coach, with the Belgian signing a three-year contract at Turf Moor ahead of the 2026/27 Championship season.

The 45-year-old arrives from Belgian side Genk, where he guided the club to a seventh-place finish last term. Hayen replaces Scott Parker, who left Burnley by mutual consent in April after the Clarets were relegated from the Premier League.

Hayen enjoyed considerable success during his previous spell at Club Brugge, leading the Belgian giants to the Pro League title in 2024 before lifting the Belgian Cup the following season. However, a poor run of results saw him dismissed in December before taking over at Genk.

The Clarets explored several managerial options following Parker's departure. The club held talks over a move for Wales manager Craig Bellamy , while former Wolves boss Rob Edwards also emerged as a candidate, but neither appointment materialised.

His first competitive fixture in charge will come against Notts County in the Carabao Cup on 8 August, before Burnley begin their bid for an immediate Premier League return with a Championship opener against fellow relegated side West Ham.
