Luca Koleosho is the subject of interest from clubs in Serie A, following a stop-start campaign on loan in Spain and France last season

There's quite a bit of uncertainty surrounding Burnley ahead of their Championship return.

The main focus in the infancy of the offseason has been to focus on improving the structure behind the scenes at Turf Moor, which has had a knock-on delay to the future of some of the players who are being tipped for a move away.

A new manager is yet to be announced, after Scott Parker departed the Clarets in late April, and until that new man in the dugout is in place, decisions over the futures of the likes of Zian Flemming and Maxime Esteve, among other top performers last season, have been put on ice.

However, a departure for Luca Koleosho seems almost a formality, after he played no part in the recent Premier League campaign and struggled for minutes across loan spells back at Espanyol and then at Paris FC.

Koleosho may find his future in Italy, after the American-born Italian international made his first senior appearances for Gli Azzuri in the recent international window at the end of the campaign, starting in 1-0 wins over Luxembourg and Greece.

According to Tutto Mercato, the 21-year-old is on the radar of Fiorentina and Bologna, two sides with recent European pedigree in the Europa and Conference League.

It's not been the greatest couple of years at Turf Moor for the wideman, after arriving at Burnley as an exciting 18-year-old back in July 2023, following the Clarets promotion to the top flight under Vincent Kompany.

Koleosho would make just 15 appearances in the Premier League before being sidelined in December for the remainder of the campaign. He returned in the Championship but couldn't rediscover the hype that surrounded him in his debut campaign.

After just two goals in Burnley's promotion year under Scott Parker, the 21-year-old was allowed to leave on loan ahead of their Premier League return. He made a move back to Espanyol, but made three substitute appearances before the deal was terminated.

He headed to Paris FC for the second half of the campaign, where he scored three times in 16 Ligue 1 outings, but only three of them saw him in the starting eleven.

The loan move had an option to buy, but the likelihood is that, even if Paris does exercise that, which Tutto Mercato suggests that they may, Koleosho will likely be shipped out for a profit. So, regardless of which division he finds himself in initially, the wideman could be on the move to Italy this summer.

Luca Koleosho could be a useful asset in the Championship, but it seems the ship has sailed on his Burnley career

Despite limited starts in the French top flight, Koleosho seemed impactful, and he was often the first off the bench for Antoine Kombourare's side during his spell.

And, while a lot can be said about the quality of the Italian national team currently, making his senior debut for Gli Azzuri would definitely give him some motivation to start next season strong and truly stamp his claim for more caps.

Therefore, a return to Burnley in the Championship could have seen the Clarets bolstered out wide ahead of the new season with a young, hungry and exciting winger who still has plenty of room to improve.

But it seems that a fresh start elsewhere looks to be the decision that will be taken, which would be a bit of a disappointment for those in the stands at Turf Moor, who still believe Koleosho can blossom into a star winger in the future.

They may have to watch from afar now if a move to Serie A goes through, and they'll be hoping that it wasn't a missed opportunity to see him thrive in a Burnley shirt.
