Clarets winger Jaydon Banel has begun to make a real impression at Pride Park
Burnley FC could follow in Wolves’ footsteps and have their Premier League relegation confirmed on Wednesday if they lose to Manchester City.
In doing so, it could have a ripple effect on Derby County's chances of permanently signing Jaydon Banel in the summer.
January loan signing Banel has begun to make a real impression at Pride Park, with the Dutch winger stepping up amid a spate of injuries in John Eustace’s attacking ranks.
Especially since netting a superb solo goal against Oxford United, there’s undoubtedly been some excitement around his potential long-term future at the East Midlands outfit.
However, a fresh Rams deal for the 21-year-old will leave a familiar voice "shocked."

FLW’s Derby County Fan Pundit, Shaun Woodward, believes the Rams should be exploring a permanent move for Banel, but has warned that Burnley’s likely Championship status could complicate any deal.
"With the injuries to [Bobby] Clark, [Patrick] Agyemang and [Rhian] Brewster it’s brought Jaydon Banel into the team, and I think he’s strived over the last two, three games," Woodward said.
"He's looked really exciting, just needed a bit of game time really, there’s clearly talent there. He’s scored some good goals, he’s looked lively, and looks to compliment the front four really well."
After signing for Burnley from Ajax for a fee believed to be around €1m in February 2025, Banel struggled for opportunities at Turf Moor, making just one appearance last season and four this term before his loan move.
Derby have arguably seen more of his capabilities in a short period than Burnley managed across months. The Rams boss previously revealed that Banel caught his eye when coming off the bench for the Clarets during their Carabao Cup win over Derby earlier in the campaign.
Woodward continued his plea by saying, "Someone I’d definitely be looking to try and bring in, only problem is Burnley are going to be in the Championship and they’ve probably seen this as well.
"I don’t think they’re going to want to let him go because he looks like he can more than handle himself at this level. So, I’d be very shocked if he could sign him permanently when I think he could do a good job for Burnley."

With three Championship starts in the Rams’ last four games prior to the Norwich clash, Banel has begun to show exactly why he was recruited.
He has added a certain energy and directness to Derby’s attacking play at a time when it has been badly needed due to the aforementioned injuries.
So, yes, while Derby may be increasingly convinced by Banel’s impact, Burnley’s situation looms large over any potential deal.
The Lancashire club's decision-making will likely hinge on Scott Parker's own squad plans, particularly if he believes the youngster is now ready to contribute consistently at Championship level for his squad instead.
Banel has already shown he can fit into Eustace’s system and contribute in key moments, while his own confidence appears high, recently telling RamsTV, I think everybody thinks like me, that we’re going to the playoffs."
That optimism shows a dressing room in good spirits, but whether Derby can actually turn Banel’s promising loan spell into a permanent arrangement remains to be seen.
