Burnley's search for a new head coach is ongoing, with ex-Wolves boss Rob Edwards the latest name to have been linked with the role.

Burnley remain without a head coach as they prepare for life back in the Championship.

The Clarets endured a miserable campaign in the Premier League last time out, as they went down without much of a fight under Scott Parker.

He left Turf Moor at the end of April, which gave the hierarchy plenty of time to find a replacement ahead of the new season, but, around two months on, Burnley have still not named his successor.

Burnley managerial situation assessed as Rob Edwards update shared

Craig Bellamy had been heavily linked with the vacancy, but he is set to stay with Wales, and reports emerged in the week that Burnley had also failed with a bid to appoint Rob Edwards.

The ex-Middlesbrough chief is out of work after he was surprisingly dismissed by Wolves, but it appears Edwards isn’t keen on a swift return to management.

Whilst work will be going on in the background, it has been a frustrating process for the Burnley fans, as they remain without a manager during what is a crucial period as they look to reshape the squad.

And, when asked by FLW about the situation, Burnley fan pundit Aaron Wright admitted he doesn’t see an obvious standout candidate, although he did namecheck Kasper Hjulmand as someone he would like to see in the dugout - although he insists that questions need to be asked of the hierarchy over the whole process.

"We appointed Kompany in July, but I think that was down to work permits, so it isn't unheard of (an appointment to take this long, but this is taking the mick," Aaron told FLW.

"It's been nine weeks since Parker left, something should be in place by now, so questions do have to be asked, it seems a bit desperate at the minute, but we will see who they bring in.

All we really have to go off is the betting list, and the one that really appeals to me is Kasper Hjulmand, although there has been no actual links to him, but he’s up there in the betting.

Right now, I don’t see many viable options, and until there are firm links, you can’t form a massive opinion, but if it’s possible, I wouldn’t say no to Hjulmand, he’s got a good record wherever he has been.”

Burnley are taking a risk with late managerial decision

This has not been a good look for Burnley, as it’s a huge summer for the club, and they need a manager in place to help make these key decisions.

Of course, the club will have a say, but when it comes to recruiting players, you need to know the style of play the boss will implement. As well as that, the head coach will want time to assess the group, as there can be individuals that flourish under different guidance.

So, with the players now back for pre-season, this will quickly become a problem for Burnley, and it could mean they’re playing catch-up when the new season starts.

As for Edwards, from the outside, that looked like a great opportunity for the 43-year-old, so it is somewhat surprising that he wasn’t keen on the role, which will naturally have Burnley fans wondering why.

The pressure is on Alan Pace to get this right, and, ultimately, nobody will care about the length of time it has taken if they do go up. But, at the moment, Burnley fans will be questioning this process, and it will be intriguing to see when, and who, is appointed as Parker’s successor.
