Burnley’s Maxime Estève reveals desire to play for top-6 Premier League side | OneFootball

Maxime Estève (22) has excelled for Burnley in the EFL Championship this season, proving to be a valuable element of the best defence in the league. His performances have helped Burnley return to the Premier League. As the Frenchman tells Foot Mercato, he is now setting his sights higher.

Estève’s move from formative club Montpellier HSC to Burnley was made permanent in the summer for €12m after a six-month loan the previous season, which saw the Lancashire club relegated back to the Championship. This season, he has played in every one of Burnley’s Championship games.

Scott Parker’s finished with 100 points, behind champions Leeds United only on goal difference. Over the course of the 46-game campaign, Burnley conceded just 16 goals. Naturally, Estève’s stock has risen over the course of the season and he has now revealed his ambitions in an interview with Foot Mercato.

“When I was young, I dreamed of playing in the Premier League. I watched basically just that on the TV […] My dream is to play for a top-six team in England. I wouldn’t say there is any club in particular but my dream is to go there,” said the Frenchman.

He then revealed that he is a fan of Tottenham Hotspur players of the past and present. “My favourite player [when I was young] was Gareth Bale when he was playing at Tottenham because when I was younger, I was a left-winger and a left-back,” said Éstève before revealing a current Tottenham defender as a player he aspires to.

“There is a player that I like a lot in the Premier League that not everyone talks about – Micky van de Ven. He is very quick and I like him a lot because I think that I have the same speedy qualities, even if he is a lot quicker. I’m inspired by him because he is a player who is of a similar profile to me,” he said.
