Head of department Svenja Schlenker: “I am really very satisfied because it was a wonderful, historic evening of football. The girls gave it their all, played a bit more courageously in the second half and created chances. I would have really loved to see us score that one goal. I actually enjoyed the game and I hope the team did too in the end. I’m proud of the team and the coaches. It was just a really good performance.”
Coach Markus Högner: “We performed very well over the 90 minutes. In the first 20 to 25 minutes, we were too timid and showed too much respect. However, it must also be said that Bayern played very well, with a lot of movement off the ball. They pushed forward strongly. But as the first half progressed, we got a better grip on the game and the clear goal at half-time was to keep a clean sheet in the second half. We succeeded in doing that. We even had two or three chances that we could have played out better. But overall, we gave a good showcase for women’s football in Dortmund.”
Laura van der Laan: “It was a great game. I’m proud of the team. In the first half, we were a bit defensive and didn’t show as much confidence as we did in the second half. In the second half, we played to our strengths and showed what we can do, and we were also able to challenge Bayern in a certain way. We can build on that, and we want to take the momentum into the league. When you make two saves and the third one goes in, you get annoyed. In this case, Bayern simply switched gears a tad faster than we did. But we didn’t stop after that. We continued to believe in ourselves and said: We want to perform here, we want to deliver our best, show our strengths, and that’s what we did today.”
