BVB women lose to Bundesliga club Nürnberg | OneFootball

After the first week of winter training, coach Markus Högner’s team faced their first real test. The Black & Yellows played in an unfamiliar 3-4-1-2 formation and fell behind early on in the ninth minute after a lapse in concentration in the BVB defence allowed Jaqueline Baumgärtel to score. Borussia kept the game balanced and created chances to equalise. Jasmin Jabbes had the best opportunity, but failed to beat goalkeeper Larissa Rusek when she found herself free in front of goal. Shortly before the half-time whistle, Baumgärtel scored again for Nürnberg.

Dortmund came out of the break with momentum, with Annika Enderle having a chance to pull one back, but she was also denied by Rusek (47). However, after conceding three goals in six minutes, the game was already decided after an hour. Högner switched to a back four and brought on U17 player Josephine Tenkhoff in the closing stages, who made her first appearance for the first team. However, the BVB women were denied a consolation goal, instead conceding a sixth goal shortly before the end. “Nürnberg punished our mistakes ruthlessly today. Nevertheless, I saw a lot of positives. We held our own well, especially in the first half, and we’ll take that with us into the rest of our preparations,” said Högner.

The friendly against 1. FC Nürnberg brought a three-day trip to Franconia to an end. On Thursday, the team trained intensively at the 1. FC Herzogenaurach facility, before an extensive visit to the PUMA headquarters was on the agenda on Friday. “Especially at the beginning of our preparations, the three days brought us closer together as a team. That was a great thing,” said Högner, drawing a positive conclusion.

Next Saturday, 24 January, the BVB women will face second-tier side SV Meppen in a friendly. Kick-off at the Waldstadion is scheduled for 14:30 CET.
