Orlando Pirates have been handed a significant $25,000 fine by CAF in the aftermath of their intense CAF Champions League preliminary match against FC Saint Eloi Lupopo. The Buccaneers’ exit from the tournament came following a 3-3 draw on aggregate, which was decided by a penalty shootout at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

This disciplinary action stems from two distinct violations of competition and safety regulations during the second leg of the tie.

Additionally, the club’s appeal to be reinstated into the competition was rejected by CAF, despite Orlando Pirates raising concerns over the eligibility of Lupopo’s coach, Guy Bukasa, and two of their players, Henoc Molia and Khashala Wanet. The South African side contended that Bukasa was serving a suspension from a previous incident during the Under-20 AFCON in Egypt, which should have prevented him from occupying the bench.

Furthermore, the Buccaneers questioned the registration timing of player Henoc Molia and alleged that Khashala Wanet possessed dual passports. Despite these claims, CAF upheld the original result and imposed the financial penalty on Orlando Pirates.
