Former AC Milan defender Cafu has listed some of the club’s greatest-ever players when asked what the current Rossoneri side is missing.

Speaking during an interview with Il Messaggero (via Radio Rossonera), the Brazilian legend showed that he does not hold many of the current players in high esteem when compared to those he played with in the past.

The former Roma man was asked what this current team is missing when it comes to going further in Europe and winning the Serie A title, and he jokingly rattled off some of the biggest names to ever play for the club.

“Dida, Cafu, Nesta, Maldini, Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Kaka, Shevchenko, Inzaghi are missing. Come on, now we’re joking,” Cafu said.

He then explained his thought process a little further, adding that there are not enough players that have gathered the sort of experience you get from going far in European competitions regularly.

“But it’s to say that they’re missing that type of player. And maybe Milan are missing players with experience, which you acquire by playing in the Champions League and European cups,” he said.

Milan have not won the Champions League since 2007 but the Rossoneri did make it to the semi-final in 2022/23, where Inter put in a dominant display to ensure it was they who reached the final against Manchester City.

One of Paulo Fonseca’s biggest tasks will be to make sure that Milan put in a respectable display in the Champions League and preferably reach a knockout round.
