Calvert-Lewin nets late winner for Leeds against Seagulls | OneFootball

Brighton & Hove Albion suffered a late defeat away to Leeds United after letting Dominic Calvert-Lewin steal in to slot in a stoppage-time winner.

The Seagulls will be unlikely to reach the Champions League now but should still be in some form of European competition if they avoid defeat at home to what is likely to be a much-rotated Manchester United on the final day of the season.

Brighton shouldn't have had to rely on that though and they had numerous chances to take the lead at Elland Road.

Danny Welbeck came the closest early in the second half when his effort was cleared off the line by Ethan Ampadu.

However, with time running out in stoppage time a mistake at the back allowed Calvert-Lewin to rush in and get the ball before Bart Verbruggen received a back pass. The Leeds striker then just had to keep his cool before slotting into an empty net.

That result means that Leeds are now up to 13th in the table ahead of Newcastle United's game against West Ham while Brighton remain seventh, with Brentford and Sunderland breathing down their necks.
