3 teams in search of their maiden CAN win

Among the eight teams competing this Tuesday, December 23 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, three sides are looking to make history. Benin, Botswana, and Tanzania all share the same ambition: to secure their first-ever win in the final stage of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Facing DR Congo, Benin are eager to claim their maiden victory in the finals after 14 unsuccessful attempts (5 draws, 9 defeats). Even when they reached the quarterfinals in 2019, they recorded three draws in the group stage.
Botswana, making only their second appearance at this stage, are determined to surpass their 2012 campaign, where they were eliminated in the group stage without a single win. A triumph over Senegal may seem unlikely, but it would be nothing short of historic.
The same goes for Tanzania, who will take on Nigeria at 17:30 GMT. The Taifa Stars have previously featured in three CAN tournaments, managing only 3 draws and 6 defeats.
These three teams are entering the 2025 edition with high hopes, aiming to etch their names into the history books with that long-awaited first victory for their passionate supporters.
