Jaouen Hadjam sidelined for three months

It was already clear that his Africa Cup of Nations campaign was over. Jaouen Hadjam now knows exactly how long he’ll be out of action for his club.
The Algerian defender picked up an injury during Algeria’s match against Burkina Faso in the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). He was forced to leave his teammates in the 13th minute after a tough challenge with Gustavo Sangaré.
After leaving the Algeria squad in Morocco, the 22-year-old left-back returned to his Swiss club for treatment.
BSC Young Boys have announced the verdict for the Algerian international (16 caps, 3 goals) on their official website: three months on the sidelines.
“The 22-year-old left-back has suffered a syndesmosis injury to his left ankle and will require surgery; his absence is expected to last around three months,” the club said in a statement.
“After persistent pain and Jaouen Hadjam’s return to Switzerland, thorough medical examinations led to a serious diagnosis, even though the Algerian Football Federation had initially hoped to be able to call on the YB player again during the tournament in Morocco,” the statement concluded.
