The Juventus Women's First Team take on AS Roma in the last match of the 2025/26 season, the Italian Cup final.
Coach Massimiliano Canzi and Barbara Bonansea spoke to the press ahead of the match which will take place in Vicenza at the ‘Romeo Menti’ stadium on Sunday, 24 May at 18:00 CEST.
“On Sunday, the difference will be made by whoever is more determined to secure victory; winning this Italian Cup would be a bit of a redemption for us after a season that started off on the right foot but then threw up a number of setbacks along the way. Together, we’ve all tried to find something different to rediscover what we showed we were capable of last year. I like to think that difficult times reveal a person’s true worth, and I hope the Italian Cup final will be that kind of opportunity for us.
"We shouldn’t just talk about the Scudetto we missed out on, but also about the Serie A Women’s Cup and the Super Cup we won: there’s always been a balance between Juventus and Roma, and I expect the same from tomorrow’s match. We’ve lost games against teams we should have beaten in the league, and that’s certainly cost us, but it hasn’t been a bad year. I know that tomorrow’s result will also weigh on the overall assessment of the season. There’s always pressure in a final, but it’s great to be part of matches like this because we’re playing to lift trophies. When I think about the four matches against Roma, I know that attention to detail will make the difference: our aim is to play to our strengths.”
“We’ve been through some tough times, which we’ve come through together – the team, the staff and the club. We’ve all pulled in the same direction, and that’s something that will stay with us. And then there are the titles, the results and the victories. History shows that we’ve performed better than Roma in one-off matches, but history doesn’t take to the pitch. We’ve won two trophies against the Giallorosse this season, but they’ve all been very evenly matched encounters. They’ve done better than us in the league, and that’s why we know we can give them a run for their money; it’ll be a great match. We’ve earned our place in the final and we want to bring this trophy home.
"This is the fifth meeting of the season between Juventus and Roma; we know each other well, and the key tomorrow will be finding ways to counter the changes they’ll try to make on the pitch. We know their strengths and we’re ready to face them. When we manage to attack the space behind the defence effectively, we can make our mark in the best possible way. We’ll need to take control of the game and adapt to whatever we find on the pitch. We know, given our physical and technical attributes, that attacking behind the opposition’s defence is one of our strengths. A win would change the perception of a season that, from my point of view, is already a positive one.”
