Matchday 2 of the Serie A Women’s Cup is here, and our Juventus Women’s First Team are back in action after a week away from competitive action as Lazio visit Biella.

Kick-off for what will be the Bianconere’s first home game of the season is fixed for 15:00 CEST on Sunday, 7 September, and they will be hoping to build on their opening win away at Parma.

Ahead of the game, coach Massimiliano Canzi spoke to us to give his thoughts.

A GREAT WEEK’S WORK

“We’ve been working really well, with real intensity too and we feel ready for the game. It might be our most important game in this group. A positive result would would take us into the next round. We’ve had the fortune of working with a full squad available this week, with the exception of Lia [Walti] who is getting back to her best shape. Even [Estelle] Cascarino has worked with us for the whole week, which is a great sign.

“We showed great character in Liverpool against Everton, not giving up after going two goals behind. This spirit is fundamental, but of course we need to improve defensively, which is always important to achieve the goals we’ve set for ourselves. Very often it’s the team with the best defence who wins things, and this doesn’t mean we need to be defensive, but we need to know how to give away as little as possible. It’s something that we can still improve on.”

A HIGH-QUALITY ARRIVAL

“I’m certainly not the one discovering a player of Walti’s ability. She’s an addition that, in terms of quality, personality, and experience, further strengthens an already-excellent squad. The arrival of such a charismatic player was welcomed with great enthusiasm by all the girls. We can only be happy and thank the Club for providing us with such a talent. It's a clear sign that the goal is to keep improving."

BACK TO BIELLA

“Returning to Biella, after the win against Milan on 18 April, which secured us the Scudetto, brings back wonderful memories for all of us.

“The last time we stepped onto that pitch was to celebrate our triumph. It will be a sweet homecoming, and we can't wait to get out there.”

TRICKY OPPONENTS IN LAZIO

“Looking back at last season's games, Lazio were probably the team that gave us the most trouble. They have a very organised style of play, a coach who I believe is very well-prepared, and key players like [Martina] Piemonte, who did very well last year, [Eleonora] Goldoni, and [Elisabetta] Oliviero, who all went far with Italy at the summer’s European Championship. They are a top-level team that we have the utmost respect for, and that’s why we know it’s going to be a very tough match.”
