Capello questions Milan’s midfield regression since Scudetto: “Don’t destroy it”

Since winning the Scudetto, AC Milan as a team have regressed, that much is clear to see. However, the reasoning for this is slightly unclear. Today, Fabio Capello suggested it could be to do with the changes in the midfield.

When Milan won the Scudetto, they did so with a fantastic midfield. One which covered all bases, and looked comfortable doing so. The same cannot be said for the midfield at present, or even in recent times.

Even after the summer mercato, there can still be questions asked about the Rossoneri’s midfield trio, and it could be suggested that there is a general lack of balance – which was an area of weakness last season.

It seems that the problem is reoccurring once more, and with Ismael Bennacer injured, it could already be suggested that there is a lack of suitable depth. Perhaps, this issue existed before his injury.

Speaking this morning to Gazzetta dello Sport, Capello questioned the Diavolo’s midfield situation, and Milan’s poor decisions after the Scudetto win.

“There isn’t one of Milan who won the Scudetto from that midfield. If you won, you have to improve the base, don’t destroy it. In recent years, half-points have arrived, half-attacking… And where is the director? But the problem concerns many roles. Like the center forward. Giroud is an area 9, Morata is another thing… Morata is not an area 9. Such a tactical turnaround must be studied by the company and coach.”
