The Manchester derby is always a huge event, but this time, the Washington DC branch of the Official Supporters Club made it about more than just the scoreline; they made it about giving back to their local community.
At their watch party, the Capital City Blues partnered with DC SCORES, a local nonprofit that works with over 3k kids across the City. DC SCORES uses football to help young people build confidence and learn what being part of a team means.
Matthew at DC SCORES said that "Using the Manchester Derby as a way to support the youth in our program shows the strength of City’s Supporters Club community and the willingness of their members to give back," DC SCORES said. "It’s about making sure the next generation has the same opportunities to grow through football."
During the watch party, members had the chance to buy raffle tickets both in person and online for prizes, including a signed John Stones shirt. Together, they raised over $1k through raffle sales, and the Capital City Blues chipped in another $500 on top to support DC SCORES programs.
"We love to give back and help build a stronger community, especially when it comes to the kids, they’re the future of D.C.," Leah, Chair of the Capital City Blues shared.
The day was a perfect example of how football can bring people together — not just for the love of the game, but to make a real impact.
