According to Wales Online, the Bluebirds are confident that they can have their accounts ratified by the league, which will open the door to fresh faces joining Brian Barry-Murphy’s side this month.

The 24-year-old has come through the ranks of the Premier League side’s academy system, but has been unable to break into the first team squad.

The shot-stopper has spent the last two seasons on loan, first joining Chesterfield to help them gain promotion to League Two in 2024.

Tyrer then joined Blackpool the following summer, where he featured 38 times in League One as the Seasiders finished ninth in the table.

Cardiff are closing in on the signing of Tyrer from Everton this month despite currently being restricted from bringing in new players by the EFL.

However, the Bluebirds believe the issue will be resolved soon, so they are going ahead with their potential transfer business as normal.

The player cannot be confirmed as their latest signing until the restriction is lifted, but he is still being pencilled in for a medical after an agreement was reached between the two clubs.

The Welsh outfit must submit their accounts and have them ratified by the EFL, and the club are optimistic that this won’t be a problem.

It’s believed that Tyrer will be in contention for the number one spot in Barry-Murphy’s side, with Matthew Turner and Nathan Trott also vying for the position.

Cardiff are currently leading the way at the top of the League One table, as they eye an immediate return to the second division after suffering relegation in 2025.

Next up for the Bluebirds is a trip to face third place Bradford City on 17 January in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Harry Tyrer signing is a positive sign for Cardiff

Cardiff pushing ahead with this move for Tyrer shows a level of confidence in their position with the EFL that bodes well for the remainder of their window.

The Everton goalkeeper has proven himself at a League One level, and he will be in solid competition for the number one position in Barry-Murphy’s side.

He is still also only 24, so he has time to develop into a Championship calibre player, which is what Cardiff will be hoping for, as they set their sights on a return to that division.

Cardiff have overhauled their goalkeeper options in the last few months, and this addition will inject some interesting competition into the squad for the rest of the campaign.
