Cardiff City are closing in on the signing of Lincoln City attacking midfielder Jack Moylan.

Cardiff City are looking to establish themselves back in the Championship after an excellent first season under Brian Barry-Murphy.

The decision to appoint the former Man City youth coach was a bold one by the Bluebirds hierarchy, but Barry-Murphy achieved his main objective last season, as the Welsh side finished second to secure an automatic return to the second tier.

However, it wasn’t just the results that made it such an impressive campaign for Cardiff, as the Irishman had instilled a clear, stylish brand of football, as well as integrating a number of academy players.

Therefore, they head into the new season with real optimism, and whilst there is some frustration that the club have been slow in the market, it’s clear Cardiff are targeting quality over quantity.

And, they appear to be on the cusp of a major signing, as journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that Lincoln City’s Jack Moylan is poised to join Cardiff.

The 24-year-old joined the Imps in January 2024, and he has become a key figure for the side in the past few years, which includes playing a starring role as Lincoln won the League One title last season.

Moylan was crucial to everything that Michael Skubala’s side did, with 11 goals and six assists from his advanced midfield role, and he was key to the way they played.

That form saw the ex-Shelbourne man earn a call-up to the Irish team in the summer, which was proof his stock is continuing to rise.

Firstly, you have to say what a blow this would be for Lincoln, as Moylan would have been massive in their bid to stay in the Championship following their title win.

They have already lost Skubala to Bristol City, and this would be another huge setback for the club, who will be operating on a very small budget by Championship standards.

But, sadly, this is the price of success, and for Cardiff, this would be an outstanding bit of business if they could get it over the line.

Even though Moylan is unproven at this level, his performances last season were very eye-catching, and, if Lincoln hadn’t won promotion, it felt inevitable that he would depart.

Of course, Cardiff were competing against the Imps, so Barry-Murphy and the Bluebirds’ staff would know all about Moylan, and what he offers, so this will be seen as a coup.

From the outside, he looks as though he will be able to slot into the system that Cardiff implement with ease, and he has the technical ability to deliver on what Barry-Murphy will want, which is no doubt part of the appeal to the player.

Moylan will add another goal threat to Cardiff as well, and, at 24, they will see him as someone who still has room to develop.

So, it looks like a great signing for Cardiff, and whilst they do need more, it’s the sort of addition that Barry-Murphy will want moving forward as we enter the final month of the window.
