Cardoso Varela ‘to start’ season with Dinamo Zagreb B | OneFootball

Cardoso Varela is to begin the new season with Dinamo Zagreb’s B team after failing to cement a first team place.

According to germanijak.hr, the 17-year-old winger will drop down at the start, with a route back open if he impresses, and the move is viewed as a natural step in his development.

He left FC Porto in 2024 in a contentious switch, joining Dinamo while also being linked to Barcelona. Used by the seniors last term, he did not enjoy the breakout he had hoped for.

Varela recorded two goals and three assists in 25 appearances, starting only four times.

The likelihood of a B-team start grew when he was omitted from the squad for a pre-season friendly against Koper, which Dinamo won 4-2. He featured against Radomlje and Brinje during summer training without notable impact.

Even so, his debut professional campaign ended with a domestic double, the league title and Croatian Cup.
