Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has this weekend moved to make crystal clear his feelings with those in a position of power in Spanish football.
Real Madrid were of course back in action on Saturday night, after making the trip to La Ceràmica for a La Liga meeting with Villarreal.
When all was said and done, Los Blancos emerged triumphant, thanking a Kylian Mbappé brace for keeping the club’s title hopes alive and well.
Following the full-time whistle on Saturday, however, the physical exhaustion on the part of Real’s players was immediately evident.
Several high-profile stars dropped to the turf, before being checked on by the club’s medical staff.
And as much, in truth, should not come as all that much of a surprise.
The reigning Spanish champions were forced to take to the pitch last night less than 72 hours on from a gruelling clash with city rivals Atlético Madrid in the Champions League.
Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at La Ceràmica, Carlo Ancelotti therefore made use of the opportunity to send a direct message to La Liga’s schedule makers:
“This is the last time we play a game without 72 hours of rest. We will not show up and will not play if it happens again. We asked La Liga to change the time of the game twice. But nothing.”
