Carlo Ancelotti has set out an overhaul for Brazil after a limp World Cup, with the 2030 tournament the clear target.

Brazil were not among the favourites this summer, and Norway, led by Erling Haaland, swept past them. After meeting the CBF’s technical commission, Ancelotti said in a statement that he will start building a new team, assessing young players while keeping some World Cup veterans who can still contribute.

He took charge in 2025 and extended his deal in May until 2030, aiming to lead Brazil to the World Cup in Spain, Morocco and Portugal.

South American qualifying is due to begin in the second half of 2027, a path expected to be smoother than usual because Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay qualify automatically as hosts of the centenary opening matches.

The 2028 Copa América will be the first major test for this refreshed side. Ancelotti did not name names, and a generational shift is anticipated in which emerging Brasileirao talents could come to the fore, while senior figures such as Casemiro and Neymar could drop out due to age.

The CBF also plans to tighten links between the senior squad and youth teams, with strong displays at the Under-17 World Cup and the Los Angeles Olympics among their early targets.
