Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has on Saturday provided his take on the club’s chances of retaining their La Liga title.
This of course comes fresh off an outing to forget for Los Blancos.
Real marked their return to action a short time ago, welcoming Valencia to Spain’s capital for a La Liga clash.
Boss Ancelotti opted for a strong XI for the fixture, making use of the likes of Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Jr. from the off.
As alluded to above, though, such talents, when all was said and done, could not save Los Merengues from a shock defeat.
After Vinícius cancelled out Mouctar Diakhaby’s opener early in the 2nd-half, Hugo Duro struck deep into injury-time, securing a crucial three points for relegation-battling Valencia.
For Real Madrid, on the other hand, a potentially decisive blow has now been dealt to the club’s title hopes.
In the case of Barcelona getting the better of Real Betis later tonight, the Blaugrana will climb a full six points clear of their Clásico rivals at the top of the Spanish top-flight.
One individual, though, of the opinion that even as much would not end Real Madrid’s chances of retaining their La Liga crown is boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Speaking to the media post-match on Saturday, Ancelotti assured:
“It’s now much more difficult to compete for La Liga, but it’s still possible.”
