Carlos Romero has signed a new Villarreal deal through 2031 and will rejoin the first team after two seasons on loan at Espanyol, the club said in a statement.
The agreement extends his previous contract, which ran to 2029, by two years. The 24-year-old will take the place of fellow left-back Alfonso Pedraza, who will not continue at the club.
Born in Torrent, Romero joined Villarreal in 2019 from Torre Levante. After progressing through the academy, he established himself in the B team and made his first-team debut in 2023-24, featuring in eight matches.
He then moved to Espanyol on loan that summer and remained there for two seasons. Across that spell he played 70 Primera División games and scored eight goals, starting 36 times this season.
In principle, Villarreal will have Romero and Sergi Cardona as first-team left-backs for the 2026-27 campaign.
