Flamengo midfielder Carrascal has received a four-match suspension for his Supercopa do Brasil red card against Corinthians after an STJD ruling, but he can face Bragantino on Thursday at 21:30 in Bragança Paulista.
According to Globo.com, the ban applies to CBF-run competitions, yet Article 133 of the CBJD allows the decision not to take immediate effect when so declared, which was the case, leaving the Colombian available for the ninth round.
Flamengo argued the case had expired. They said the red card was on the first of February and that Article 254-A carries a 30-day statute of limitations, with the complaint filed on 11 February and only admitted on 30 March. They contended punishment would expire on the first of March.
The panel rejected that argument. Auditor Luiz Gabriel Batista Neves said accepting prescription would imply some alteration or even criminal conduct within the tribunal, adding that at most it might have been a system error.
Carrascal returned early from Colombia duty during the FIFA window. Colombia lost 3-1 to France in Washington on Sunday. He skipped Monday’s session at the training ground, then trained on Tuesday.
In last Thursday’s defeat to Croatia, he replaced James Rodríguez 17 minutes into the second half and struggled to impress. He remained on the bench for the France game. The use of returning call-ups will depend on physical checks back in Brazil, though it is likely all will be included in the squad.
