Antonio Cassano feels that Inter Milan were “steamrolled” by Barcelona, and that they “could have conceded five goals.”
Cassano was not impressed by the Nerazzurri’s performance in the 3-3 Champions League semifinal first leg. He gave a scathing assessment on the Viva el Futbol podcast, via FCInterNews.
Former striker Antonio Cassano has been unsparing in his views on his old team Inter.
The ex-Italian international has always been outspoken. And he has attacked the Nerazzurri with particular vehemence in recent weeks.
Cassano claimed that Nicolo Barella and Alessandro Bastoni receive “favouritism” in the media.
The former striker also argued that the Nerazzurri have had a “sh*t season” and that this is the case even if they end up winning the Champions League.

Former striker Cassano argued that “I’ve seen wonderful football from Inter in Italy.”
“But in Europe, almost never.”
“That has to be said clearly. We’ve seen the difference in philosophy, quality, and ideas.”
“And if I continue to say that Inzaghi doesn’t convince me, it’s because in Europe he plays like this,” Cassano then argued of Inter’s coach. “Cautious, defeatist.”
“In Italy, maybe they can score three goals against Empoli or Verona,” he continued, furthermore.
“But Inter were under pressure for the whole match.”
Moreover, Cassano argued that “the 3-3 scoreline doesn’t interest me.”
“The real fact is that they conceded twenty shots. And they did poorly defensively.”
“Maybe they’ll reach the final, and I’ll be happy for Italian football,” Cassano said furthermore. “But today’s analysis is different.”
“People talk a lot about Inzaghi as a genius. But tonight they were just kicking the ball long.”
“Against Bayern Munich, it was the same story. In 180 minutes, Inter created very little. That’s an objective fact.”
After yesterday’s 3-3 draw against Barcelona, former striker Cassano declared “what a match.”
He called the semifinal first leg “magnificent” and “wonderful.”
“Considering the weight of the match, it was the best match of the entire Champions League season.”
“It was a real, intense, and top-level match.”
Then, Cassano argued that “when I saw that Barca are unique, it’s because, despite not having absolute phenomena player, they never let you get a whiff of the ball.”
“They’re extraordinary in possession,” he continued. “In controlling the game.”
“Inter counterattacked three times in the entire match.”
And of Inter’s corner kicks, Cassano said “forget about them – we knew they’re one of the weapons that would favour the Nerazzurri.”
He argued that “a strong team like Inter can’t afford to play a match like that.”
“They were steamrolled,” argued the former striker. “They could have conceded five goals.”
“It was a serious match, sure. But it was very, very defensive.”
Cassano that Inter are “the strongest team in Italy.”
“But they can’t be at that level in Europe playing that way. In terms of their quality, they’ve disappointed me.”
“Inter have a strong midfield, but they were outpaced by Barcelona in terms of ideas, quality, pace,” Cassano argued.
“Some of the praise for them needs to be tempered. Bastoni and Barella are great players, but yesterday we saw their limits. Barcelona exposed them.”
