UOL reports that the CBF has stood down referee Felipe Fernandes de Lima and VAR Antonio Magno Lima Cordeiro after Palmeiras beat Chapecoense 1-0 on Sunday in the 18th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

The pair were at the centre of late controversy, first when a Chapecoense goal in stoppage time was ruled out. Minutes later a penalty was awarded to the visitors, which Bolasie failed to convert.

In its review, the CBF found procedural errors in both incidents. It assessed that Chapecoense’s goal should not have been disallowed because the contact did not directly affect the play.

The refereeing commission also noted Felipe Fernandes assessed the pitchside monitor while under pressure from Palmeiras players, which it deemed inappropriate.

On the penalty, there was no conclusive image to determine whether the foul occurred inside or outside the area, so the on-field decision should have stood.

The commission judged Felipe Fernandes hesitant in his own calls, a view reinforced by VAR audio released after full time.

Both officials will undergo retraining during the World Cup period. They will not be appointed to leading competitions or Série B, and there is no timeline for a return, particularly to top-flight matches.
