Cecily Wellesley-Smith signs professional contract

The 18-year-old defender, who joined from Oxford United in August 2024, has progressed rapidly over the past year, impressing across domestic and international youth competitions.
A regular with England at youth level, Wellesley-Smith represented her country at both the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship in Sweden and the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic last year. She is on current duty with the England u19 side at the UEFA Women’s u19 Euros.
She is currently on duty with England at the UEFA Women’s u19 Euros after training regularly with Renee Slegers’ squad recently.
“I’m so proud to sign my first professional contract with Arsenal,” Wellesley-Smith said. “During my time here so far, I’ve loved learning from some of the best players and staff in the game and gaining an understanding of what it means to represent this great club. I’m looking forward to continuing to work hard in order to keep progressing and building as I begin my journey in the professional game.”
Wellesley-Smith spent last season on dual registration with Oxford United in the FA Women’s National League South, where she made 16 appearances, offering her crucial experience of senior football while continuing her development.
