Celta Vigo opened their training base to Lyon on Friday, a goodwill gesture that let the French side work in Galicia after they could not fly out overnight. The arrangement came between the two meetings of the clubs, with midweek trouble in the city casting a shadow.
According to Le Progres, Lyon had to remain in Vigo because the airport closed at 12.30am, so the squad used Celta’s facilities on Friday morning.
The substitutes and those who played little completed a normal session, while the rest focused on recovery and treatment.
Around 30 Celta supporters were responsible for violence against Lyon fans in central Vigo on Wednesday night, leaving an unpleasant memory, yet relations between the clubs stayed cordial. Presidents Marian Mourinho and Michele Kang spoke at length in the directors’ box and that tone carried into Friday.
Lyon thanked Celta on social media for making their site available before the journey home. After a midday meal, the delegation flew back to Lyon, with another match coming quickly on Sunday at Le Havre.
