SC Freiburg face Celta Vigo away from home in the Europa League quarter-final tie after winning the home leg 3-0 last Thursday. In a dominant performance, Julian Schuster’s side scored three unanswered goals while they also came the closest to extending their lead instead of any signs of life from the LaLiga side.
However, Freiburg have been poor away from home all season. Although they won their last two away games in the league, their only win on their European travels came on matchday four against Nice. They failed to score in each of their last three away games, including 1-0 defeats in Lille and Genk in the last two.
On Sunday, Lucas Höler, who came close to netting the fourth goal in the first leg, scored the winner against Mainz in Bundesliga. The result opened a seven-point gap between the teams, while Freiburg maintained their distance with sixth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt.
Meanwhile, Celta Vigo heavily lost at home against bottom-placed Real Oviedo as Claudio Giràldez made several changes to the starting lineup. The 3-0 defeat at Abanca Balaidos wasn't enough to see them dropping from sixth place since Real Sociedad and Getafe also dropped points on matchday 31.
Johan Manzambi was unable to finish the game on Sunday, but Schuster is hopeful he'll be back in full fitness for one of the biggest games in Freiburg’s history. With his direct replacement Patrick Osterhage sidelined for the rest of the season, the experienced Nicolas Höfler could even get a rare chance if the Swiss midfielder is out of the game.
