Celtic have confirmed the loan departure of Shin Yamada. The Japanese forward has struggled for game time since arriving at Celtic Park from Kawasaki Frontale and spent the second half of last season at the relegated SC Preußen Münster in 2. Bundesliga.

Shortly after Celtic’s pre-season defeat against Sporting Lisbon, Celtic confirmed that Yamada had departed on a season long loan deal to join OH Leuven.

Celtic added the 26-year-old last summer as Brendan Rodgers desperately wanted a striker. As it transpired, Yamada was not the answer and he departs with no goal contributions in competitive appearances. He did, however, score from the spot to equalise against Shelbourne at Tolka Park last week.

The optimists among us will reflect on this news as a positive as it suggests that Celtic are satisfied that they have adequate resources to cover this position, either by players in the building or due to arrive.

Celtic need to be quick in the window as anxiety grows regarding the sluggish nature of operations is growing. Kelechi Iheanacho has reportedly been offered a new deal to remain at the club but in the middle of July, there is no update.
