Celtic are interested in signing Julian Aruajo on a permanent deal this summer, though Sheffield United and Wrexham should swoop in

Mexican right-back Julian Araujo joined Scottish outfit Celtic on loan from Bournemouth in January 2026, and having since impressed in Glasgow, has been linked with a permanent move to the Bhoys this summer.

Californian-born Mexican international Julian Araujo spent the bulk of his youth career playing in various academies across the United States, but first made his breakthrough with LA Galaxy in 2019.

Four years impressing in Los Angeles saw Spanish giants FC Barcelona offer him a ticket to Europe, joining the Catalan outfit in 2023, but immediately heading out on loan to Las Palmas.

His time in Spain didn't last long, as Araujo was on the move again in the summer of 2024, making the move from the Camp Nou to the Vitality Stadium, where he would make 12 Premier League appearances across his first season with the Cherries.

However, with Alex Jimenez and Adam Smith for competition, the 24-year-old's game time dwindled this campaign, as he subsequently joined Celtic on loan for the rest of the season, where he has since made ten league appearances before picking up a thigh injury.

Football Insider reported that Celtic could look to make the move permanent in the summer, with Bournemouth ready to sanction a move, though FLW has taken a look at two EFL clubs that should swoop in and attempt to bring him to the Championship.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United began this campaign in torrid form under Ruben Selles, with the Spaniard swiftly dismissed after just six games and replaced by Chris Wilder, who had been sacked himself just months prior.

Wilder has since rescued the Blades from any lingering relegation fears, with the South Yorkshire outfit looking all but set to retain their status in the second tier for the next campaign.

A messy summer transfer window hasn't helped their case, with Wilder having little room to manoeuvre in the January window as a result, though he still made the signings of the likes of Joe Rothwell, Kalvin Phillips, and Ki-Jana Hoever.

Hoever, a right-back by trade, joined on loan from Wolves, and is expected to return to Molineux at the end of the season, offering Femi Seriki competition in the meantime.

Seriki himself was linked with a move to Everton as recently as January, which, should the Toffees reignite their interest in the summer, would leave the Blades short in that area of the pitch.

Therefore, Wilder must consider alternatives heading into the summer, and Araujo should be high on their list, with Bournemouth ready to sanction a permanent move for the Mexican this summer.

With parachute payments running out at Bramall Lane soon, sales will need to be made this summer, and should Seriki make the move to the top flight, they likely wouldn't struggle to pay the fee Bournemouth will demand.

Wrexham

Wrexham could well be playing Premier League football next season, with the Welsh outfit still within a real chance of earning a play-off place this season.

Phil Parkinson has guided the club from the fifth tier to the brink of the top flight with three consecutive promotions, and is looking to make it four this time around.

In any instance, Wrexham will likely build upon their success heading into next year and will look to make upgrades across the board, with right wing-back being no different.

Issa Kabore and Ryan Longman are the club's two main options down the right flank at the moment, though with Kabore only on loan from Manchester City and no confirmation as yet that the move will become a permanent one, alternatives must be kept in mind just in case.

Araujo could be the perfect fit at STōK Cae Ras, able to play in a back four, or, in Wrexham's instance, as a wing-back, with the American-born defender likely attracted by the proposition of working under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
