Celtic have made an enquiry for West Ham United striker Callum Wilson, according to Sky Sports.

The Hoops are trying to gauge his interest in joining them this month, as other English and Saudi Arabian clubs are in the running to sign him.

Celtic want to add a striker or two to their frontline this month, and the ‘brilliant‘ 33-year-old is on their radar.

He has not featured in West Ham’s last two matches, and he could terminate his contract. Wilson has bagged just four goals in 18 appearances for the Hammers.

Celtic should look elsewhere

This is a move Celtic should be avoiding. Wilson is entering the twilight of his career. He is not the solution for a side that wants to press, run and dominate territory.

Celtic need reliability and upside, not a short-term punt on a forward whose best days are behind him.

If the Hoops are serious about refreshing their attack, the focus should be firmly elsewhere.

The Glasgow club are interested in David Datro Fofana and Franko Kovacevic.

Datro Fofana offers exactly what Wilson doesn’t. He is young, mobile and hungry.

Seven goals in 14 appearances this season underline his sharpness, while his pace and energy suit Celtic’s high-tempo approach much better.

Kovacevic is another exciting option, boasting an outstanding return of 25 goals in 28 appearances. He is ruthless, confident and trending upwards.

Celtic’s recruitment should be about building momentum, not nostalgia. Wilson feels like yesterday’s striker. Fofana and Kovacevic are tomorrow’s.
