The ongoing bans on the Green Brigade – which turns out to be a choice and not a necessity for the Celtic Board – and the Celtic fan media continues, with the Celtic FC Women team in particular suffering from the complete lack of coverage after the effort that was put into making the team visible to the Celtic support. Ironically enough the record attendances for the women’s team came about through the collective efforts of The Celtic Star and the Green Brigade with 15,822 attending a match at Celtic Park against Glasgow City.

The Celtic Star gave equal prominence to both Celtic first teams and we took plenty of criticism from some supporters who had no interest in the women’s team. That not the case in England and across Europe and to be a modern facing football club Celtic had to develop the women’s team.
That progress has been lost. Who knows where Celtic are in the SWPL table? Did you know that the split had started? Who is the manager? Can you name the last three signing brought into the club?
Without the fan media ban you’d have no excuses for not getting most of those questions correct if you are a regular reader of The Celtic Star.

That’s just one example of the self-inflicted harm that the board’s decisions are causing. There are so many others, with the ongoing ban on the Green Brigade – as a choice, not a necessity as The Celtic Star revealed last week – pretty near the top of the list. Link to that story is below.

Here’s what the Celtic Fans Collective have stated in their update about the early April meeting…

“There is plenty to discuss, and we would ask all supporters’ club representatives to speak with their members beforehand and bring any views, ideas or proposals to the meeting.
“For clarity, the intention was always to meet during the international break, and this meeting is not a direct response to Sunday’s defeat.
“Items for discussion will likely include structural changes within the Collective, the possibility of a Fan Advisory Board at Celtic, season ticket renewals, and the ongoing ban on fan groups and fan media.
“In-person attendance is encouraged, though a Zoom link will also be made available. This, along with the full agenda, will be circulated on the day of the meeting.
“Any fans or fan organisations wishing to submit ideas or proposals in advance are encouraged to do so within the next week or so.”

One other observation, the Sack the Board chants and posters fail to hit the actual target. We could see Michael Nicholson, Chris McKay and Brian Wilson all leaving this summer and there replacements merely picking up exactly where they left off, perhaps with a honeymoon period before the support realises that nothing much has changed.
If Dermot Desmond is still in charge and in control of the club then the vision – or lack of it – will remain. Ross Desmond read out what that looks like at the Celtic AGM at the end of last year.

Today is the 22nd anniversary of the day that Celtic won a knock-out tie (excluding qualifiers) in European football when we earned a 0-0 draw in Barcelona to qualify after Alan Thompson’s goal in a 1-0 win at Celtic Park in the first leg.
