The dispute follows Koubek’s decision to omit the Hoops forward from the Czech squad set to face the Republic of Ireland, citing concerns that the player does not currently prioritise international duty – comments attributed to an interview earlier this year.

Cvancara – who arrived at Celtic in January – has made an impact at the Scottish champions, netting twice against Falkirk and Motherwell.

He also played a decisive role in getting Celtic to the Scottish Cup semi-final, converting the winning penalty in a dramatic victory over the Rangers 10 days ago.

Responding via X, Cvancara’s agent Nehoda refuted the manager’s claims, insisting they misrepresent the striker’s stance.

Nehoda argued that the comments referenced were taken out of context from a Celtic TV interview conducted a few weeks ago, and do not accurately reflect Cvancara’s commitment to international football.

Nehoda said: “The explanation for Tomas Cvancara’s absence from the national team roster is completely misleading and taken entirely out of context from the full interview with Celtic TV that took place five weeks ago.”

“No one from the national team’s management is in contact with Tomas, nor has anyone been. It strikes me as very strange to draw information about a player and his current situation at the club solely from the media. Was Tomas supposed to tell the fans that, after just 3 games for Celtic, the national team is his priority?? WTF.”

Cvancara and his Celtic teammates travel to Tannadice on Sunday ahead of their lunchtime kickoff against Dundee United, which is live on Sky Sports.

Depending on results on Saturday at Tynecastle and Ibrox, Celtic could perhaps have the chance to close the gap again or maintain the two point deficit to Hearts with a victory against Jim Goodwin’s side.
