Brendan Rodgers’ side were drawn out of the hat to face the newly promoted Scottish Premiership side who begin their campaign in the top-flight on Sunday against Dundee United at Falkirk Stadium.

And, Celtic will play their first match on a Friday night at Paradise for over 10 years when they face John McGlynn’s men in two weeks time.

The Premier Sports Cup holders will host Falkirk on Friday, 15 August, which will be shown live on television with a scheduled kick off time of 7:45pm. The Celtic v Falkirk game will kick off the last 16 round of the cup competition. Premier Sports 1 will air the fixture live, with the broadcaster showing all eight matches throughout the weekend.

Having secured the Scottish Premiership title last season and with an upcoming Champions League play-off qualifier, Celtic bypassed the group stage of the competition.

Falkirk steamrolled their League Cup section, winning three of their four games and topping their group on 11 points. However, they were unseeded for the draw and as a result will meet the Scottish champions in the next round of the competition.

Ironically, the two teams met in last season’s quarter-final of the competition with Celtic winning the game 5-2 courtesy of strikes from Paulo Bernardo, Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn.

Meanwhile, Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey travelled to Glasgow yesterday to undergo a medical as he completed a season-long loan deal with the Scottish champions.

Simpson-Pusey is expected to challenge Auston Trusty and Liam Scales for starting spot alongside Rodgers’ preferred choice, Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Pep Guardiola has hailed the England youth international as the future of City’s defence following six appearances last season, which included a Champions League debut on the road against Sporting Lisbon.
