After Ellyes Skhiri’s Tunisia were eliminated, there was only one Eagle left in Morocco, and now he is heading home after a 2-0 Africa Cup of Nations defeat to Nigeria.
Farès Chaibi’s Algeria have bowed out of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, after the North Africans went down 2-0 to Nigeria on Saturday evening at the Stade de Marrakech. The Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder played the full 90 minutes, taking his tournament statistics to four starts and one appearance off the bench, 344 minutes of playing time and one goal – in the opening round against Equatorial Guinea.
Second-half heartbreak
The opening period of the match was scoreless, but the Nigerians always looked the more likely to break the deadlock and that they did through Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen (47’) and Akor Adams (57’), a team-mate of Djibril Sow at Sevilla. Those two goals were enough to see the West African nation through to the semis.
