Cruz Azul 1-1 Monterrey

Cruz Azul booked their ticket to the quarter-finals after dispatching Mexican rivals Monterrey on aggregate.

While the visitors took the lead on the night, a simply stunning José Paradela goal put Cruz Azul back in front on aggregate.

Having scored three away goals in the reverse fixture, Nicolás Larcamón's side gave Rayados little room to fight back in the tie.

Cruz Azul will not take on Son Heung-min and LAFC in the next round.

Alajuelense 1-2 LAFC

LAFC avoided being on the receiving end of a historic upset in the Champions Cup this evening, downing Costa Rican giants Alajuelense thanks to a stunning 92nd minute David Martínez winner.

The hosts set the tone on the night with any early goal to go ahead on aggregate, but LAFC fought back to erase the deficit when Nathan Ordaz drove home a leveler.

Just when it appeared the tie would be heading to extra-time, Venezuelan youngster David Martínez came off the bench to unleash a stunning winner from outside of the box.

After avoiding the round-of-16 scare, LAFC will now take on Cruz Azul in the quarter-finals.
