San Diego 3-2 Toluca

Nine-man San Diego stunned Liga MX champions Toluca in the first-leg in Southern California.

The MLS side played nearly 80 minutes with 10 men after Marcus Ingvartsen was sent off for a high-boot before Manu Duah was given his marching orders late on for appearing to use his arm to save a shot from close-range, seeing San Diego lose a second player on the night.

Both instances resulted in penalties, and both were converted by Toluca.

Despite all of that, San Diego will take a one-goal advantage to Mexico after putting three past Hugo González on the night.

The best goal of the night came from San Diego superstar Anders Dreyer, who showed why he was an MLS MVP candidate in his debut season of 2025.

It will be as tough a test as San Diego could hope for in the second-leg at Estadio Nemesio Díez, but they will have an advantage to take south.

Nashville 0-0 Inter Miami

Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas singled out the Champions Cup as the new objective for the 2026 season, and they kicked off their campaign in the knockout round with goalless first-leg draw away to MLS rivals Nashville.

It was a night of missed chances, as both sides had plenty of opportunities to sneak in front in the tie.

Nashville will perhaps be made to rue those missed chances most as they head to Miami for the second-leg, registering 15 total shots on the night with nothing to show for it.

Attention will turn to South Florida in one week's time as they tie will be decided in the second-leg.
