Club Brugge are ‘considering’ a move for Crystal Palace attacker Romain Esse, who is among several options being assessed as potential additions this window.

Bringing the England Under-21 international to Selhurst Park from London rivals Millwall in January last year was viewed as a key piece of business for the Eagles, but the move has yet to deliver the impact Palace would have hoped for.

The club made a £14.5m investment to secure his services from the Championship, tying the forward down to a five-and-a-half-year contract as he made the step up to the Premier League.

The versatile attacker, capable of operating across multiple positions in the final third, made nine appearances during his first season at Selhurst Park.

However, the 21-year-old struggled to fully convince Oliver Glasner in the first half of last season, featuring just eight times before heading to Coventry City on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

A return to the Championship proved beneficial for Esse, with Sam Parkin’s prediction of a successful spell coming true as the winger recorded two goals and an assist in 17 appearances while helping Coventry City secure promotion to the Premier League.

Despite his impressive spell away from Selhurst Park, new boss Pierre Sage appears not to view the ex-Millwall man as part of his plans for a season featuring Europa League and domestic commitments.

According to Belgian journalist Tomas Taecke, Club Brugge are ‘considering’ a move for the Crystal Palace attacker as they assess options to strengthen their wide areas.

Ivan Leko’s side have Champions League football on the horizon after claiming the Belgian league title last season and are searching for additional quality on the wings, with Esse being considered alongside Edmund Baidoo and Noah Adedeji-Sternberg.

Palace are open to a departure, but it remains to be seen how much they will demand for the 21-year-old winger.

Another Crystal Palace winger is also attracting attention from Fenerbahce, who are keeping alternatives available should AC Milan’s pursuit fail to materialise.

Sage has already added Oscar Mingueza to reinforce the right-back position and will be hoping further additions arrive as the Eagles continue shaping their squad ahead of the new season, which begins on 22nd August.
