Our Champions League Team of the Week after a thrilling week of quarter-final action, featuring big names from Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.

Goalkeeper: Juan Musso – Atletico Madrid

Perhaps should have done better for the opening goal, but Musso produced a string of saves from thereon as Atletico eliminated Barcelona. Justified his inclusion over Jan Oblak, making seven saves, on a big night.

Right-back: Eduardo Quaresma – Sporting

Part of a Sporting backline that frustrated Arsenal all night at the Emirates. Quaresma kept a lid on Gabriel Martinelli and racked up nine clearances and five tackles during a busy evening. He wasn’t dribbled past once in North London.

Centre-back: Ibrahima Konate – Liverpool

Much improved from the first leg. Konate made one vital interception to deny Ousmane Dembele in the first half and was important in shutting out the Parisians until the latter stages.

Centre-back: Marquinhos – PSG

The Paris Saint-Germain captain produced some heroic defensive moments at Anfield, including that block to deny Virgil van Dijk. Marquinhos celebrated the moment as if it were a goal, and its importance was equal to one.

Left-back: Piero Hincapie – Arsenal

Impressed on his return to the team with aggressive one-vs-one defending and six tackles. His tenacity is a big plus for Mikel Arteta, ahead of this weekend’s crunch clash at the Etihad.

Midfield: Joshua Kimmich – Bayern Munich

Led by example as Bayern beat Real Madrid to reach the semi-finals. Kimmich created the equaliser for Aleksandar Pavlovic with a wicked corner delivery and carved out three further chances in a creative display. Defensively, he was also impressive, winning 100% of his duels (5/5).

Midfield: Marcos Llorente – Atletico Madrid

An all-action performance from the Atletico Madrid midfielder to help his side eliminate La Liga rivals Barcelona. Llorente covered every blade of grass at the Metropolitano, winning eight ground duels, and played the perfect pass for Ademola Lookman to score the decisive goal.

Midfield: Arda Guler – Real Madrid

Did his best to inspire a Real Madrid remontada at Bayern Munich, with a first-half brace of top quality. First, he capitalised on Manuel Neuer’s error to score from distance, before picking his spot in the top corner with a fantastic free-kick for his second.

Right-wing: Lamine Yamal – Barcelona

The 18-year-old did his best to take the game by the scruff of the neck and was involved in almost everything good that Barcelona produced. Scored the early goal to give Barca belief, and was unfortunate to be on the losing side.

Left-wing: Luis Diaz – Bayern Munich

The Colombian is loving life in Munich as part of a potent Bayern frontline. Diaz scored the decisive goal in the club’s thrilling win over Real Madrid, a moment the winger deserved for a characteristic live-wire Diaz display.

Forward: Ousmane Dembele – PSG

As Liverpool squandered chances at the other end, Ousmane Dembele showed the ruthless touch that earned him the 2025 Ballon d’Or. The Frenchman’s late brace secured a 2-0 win at Anfield and sent the holders into the semi-finals. A class act.
