After coming off the bench to score three goals and provide two assists in Germany’s opening two FIFA World Cup 2026 games, Deniz Undav is set to start against Ecuador on Thursday.
According to information from Bild, Undav will start ahead of Jamal Musiala in the No. 10 position, where he played following his introduction against Ivory Coast on Matchday 2.
There’s also a chance that Felix Nmecha, who has shone for Julian Nagelsmann in North America, will be rested, meaning there could be a starting place for Leon Goretzka.
With Germany already qualified for the Last 32 as group winners, David Raum could also start ahead of Nathaniel Brown, while Nick Woltemade – who is yet to play a single minute – may be awarded his World Cup debut in place of Kai Havertz.
There’s calls for VfB Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling to replace Nagelsmann favourite Leroy Sané, but Bild give Leweling’s chances of starting against Ecuador just 35 percent.
Although qualified, Nagelsmann will be careful not to disrupt their rhythm too much.
