Charlie Crew to return to Leeds United early as McCann criticises Doncaster form | OneFootball

Charlie Crew will return to Leeds United earlier than planned when the January window opens, adding one to the squad.

According to Leedsunited.news, the midfielder rejoined Doncaster Rovers in the summer on a season-long League One loan after helping their promotion during the second half of last season, and Leeds still expect to be active in January despite PSR concerns.

Crew managed only 11 outings, totalling 632 minutes. Doncaster manager McCann told the club’s website: "Charlie has been stop-start and the international breaks haven’t helped him, going away two or three times. He probably hasn’t got to the levels that I thought he would do and that he showed last year."

He has represented only one club this season. He did not feature for Leeds against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup, and FIFA rules allow a player to appear for only two clubs in a campaign.

By contrast, if Christantus Uche’s loan at Crystal Palace were cancelled, he could not play for Leeds because he has already turned out for Getafe.

Crew can now return to Elland Road and consider another loan for the second half of the campaign. Whether he wants that remains to be seen, but being capped twice by Wales underlines his talent and he needs minutes to turn potential into performance.
